Distracted driving is all too common in our society today. Drivers are often on their smart phones, looking at social media sites or video chatting, rather than looking at the road in front of them. According to a survey by Consumer Reports, 41% of drivers with smartphones said they had used their hands to text while driving and 8% admitted to watching a video on their phone while driving. Distracted driving can have devastating consequences. Statistics show that traffic deaths in America are rising. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, traffic fatalities on U.S. roads in 2016 increased to 37,461. Certainly not all fatal traffic accidents are not wholly-related to distracted driving, but studies show it is a significant factor. Please help discourage distracted driving to make sure the roads in Idaho and Washington are safe.
